Understanding VarSome Query Limits

With thousands of daily users, demand on the VarSome system is high. To keep performance stable and ensure fair access for everyone, VarSome applies query limits. These define how many queries a user can make within a given time period.

Why Query Limits Exist

Query limits help to balance resources so VarSome remains reliable and responsive for the whole community. Below, we’ve detailed these limits to help you plan your work without unnecessary interruptions.

Account-specific Query limits

Different subscription levels offer different levels of access:

Unregistered VarSome Users
10 queries per 30 days, or 3 queries per 7 days, or 1 query per 24 hours, whichever is reached last.

Registered VarSome Users
30 queries per 60 minutes, or 100 queries per 24 hours, whichever is reached first.

VarSome Premium Subscribers
VarSome Premium accounts have unlimited access to our entire MolecularDB and advanced tools, such as automated germline and somatic classification.

Free users also benefit from automated germline variant classification and links to Saphetor-curated publications for their first 10 queries in any 24-hour period

What This Means in Practice

Casual users can explore the platform under the unregistered user limits, while a registered account offers broader access suitable for research or clinical use. For users who require unthrottled use, a VarSome Premium subscription provides unlimited access to our databases, classifiers, and additional features.

Summary

We use these query limits to keep VarSome fast, fair, and reliable for all users. They scale according to your account type, from occasional access to unlimited usage. By managing resources in this way, VarSome can continue to support the global community of researchers and clinicians working on variant interpretation.
